Oversized Babies
I had lunch with coworkers Clay and Lloyd the other day, and somehow this harmless little blog became the subject of general criticism. I'm paraphrasing, but the conversation went something like this:
L: "You're always writing about this soup you made or whatever."
C: "Yeah, go out on a limb -- write something edgy. You could do that."
Me: "Can't do that. You sent the URL to everyone at work, remember? I'm doomed to write about safe topics. Anyone could be reading it."
L: "Why don't you write about oversized babies? That's a big thing."
Me: "Uh, okay. Oh wait -- you should write a guest entry about that!"
Lloyd: "I can do that? Really?"
Me: "Sure. I'll write an intro about how Lloyd says this blog should be more interesting, so here's his post about oversized babies."
Clay (agreeing): "Exactly! The blog isn't edgy, so here's a post from my friend about his cute, healthy baby."
So much help these people are.

Edgy could be interesting. Just don't write about edgy work stuff? I have to be careful who read my myspace blog because my boss is one of my budies.

C: I'm just catching up on your blog after several months' hiatus. I was_simply_riveted by your story about the muffins. When you realized that boiling down the cider was going to take too long and decided to put the mixture into the freezer, I just couldn't take it anymore. My hair stood on end, my heart stopped, and I plummeted into a momentary coma. Muffins. Who knew they could be so exhilarating?
Seriously, I love the blog and love even more being immortalized in your posts. Just so you know that I wasn't entirely kidding about the issue of oversized babies... check out the following story and slideshow:

Edgy! This word is creeping into common usage and it's a great word. Great improvement over "super","awesome", "rad" of the old days, but are we talking about "edge of your seat" as in "Donnie Darko is an edgy pschological thriller" (great movie by the way), or "on the cutting edge" as your blog might be?

Mom: I think it's edgy as in "cutting edge", or, in over-zealous Internet marketing speak, "bleeding edge." And yes, it seems to be used more and more these days, especially by bleeding edge hipsters like me.
Lloyd: Thanks for the, ahem, belated vote of confidence. I'll keep up the "riveting" narrative. Perhaps you can revive your long-neglected blog with a fascinating post about big babies?
