Pet Roomba
We got a new pet for Christmas: Roomba. Not a live pet, but a vacuum cleaner. It's all we can handle in the way of pets with our current schedule and level of maturity. It's a cute vacuum cleaner though, and very well trained. Roomba's many talents include:
- charging into the bedroom and UNDER THE BED (unthinkable) to suck up the mountains of dust bunnies that live there
- headbanging (that little gray thing has a sensor; when R bumps into a wall, chair leg, your leg, he just bounces back and turns this way and that until he finds his way out)
- dutifully returning to his "home" (charging base) when he needs recharging (he does this with triumphant beeping)
- tactfully blinking when he needs to be cleaned
- cheerfully beeping when asked to go to work
- woefully beeping after having eaten rug fringe or his own charging wire (sounds like a choked up "sorry, so sorry")
- entertaining Cindy and Derek while endlessly Roomba-ing all over the apartment
Note to interested buyers: Roomba doesn't suck up everything the first time around -- the suction isn't fantastic -- but he's persistent. If you leave the thing going for a while and just forget it's there it picks up a lot of dust, especially in odd places. It's a good item for a smallish NYC apartment. If you have a real pet, go for the Dyson (cue imitation of the Dyson commercial).
